News released today revealed that England could have new national parks as environment secretary Michael Gove announced he is to review the country’s natural landscapes.

Mr Gove has said: “The creation of national parks almost 70 years ago changed the way we view our precious landscapes – helping us all access and enjoy our natural world”

Our national parks are areas specifically protected because of their countryside, wildlife and cultural heritage and are funded by central government.

England currently has ten national parks, while Wales has three and Scotland, two.

We very much welcome the review, and hope to see an extension of protected public lands that we can all explore.
