With the weather in May being so great this year, it was the perfect time to get outside to explore – and with exploring you always need a good shoe. KEEN have sent us the Terradora Ethos hiking trainer to review, a trainer fit specifically for women and the summer design of the KEEN Terradora hiking boot.
The Terradora Ethos hiking trainer by KEEN
Lightweight, breathable and ready for warm days. Our quest to create the best hiking shoe for women inspired Terradora Ethos—a warm-weather version of our TrailFit hiking shoe with all-terrain versatility.
Putting the Terradora Ethos to the test
With the weather so great we headed out on some local trails to test out KEEN’s new hiking trainer for women.
The Terradora Ethos is a slip on shoe with a pull cord, (secure fit lace capture system) to tighten. Once tightened the shoes do not loosen – it’s great to have a trainer that doesn’t rely on laces that need to be tied. Due to the elasticity, the shoe is very easy to slip on and is extremely comfortable. With the added help of the shoe loop at the back to pull then on. I have quite wide feet and can sometimes find it difficult to find a shoe that fits well. KEEN’s ethos has been a great comfort, especially when wearing the shoes for many hours on a hot day when feet can expand. There has been no time needed to wear these shoes in, it is very much slip on and go! No blisters or rubbing either. I have been wearing socks every time I have tested these shoes.
As it’s a summer shoe, there are openings around the foot for airflow, keeping the feet nice and cool. This shoe incorporates Clearsport NXT for odour control for those hotter days. Being on an easy trail I did have a few moments where bits of wood did get under my foot, but this was not an issue as it was minimal.
The trail that we headed out on has various terrain, from rock to woodland, with easy inclines. The sole of the shoe is very sturdy and has the 4mm multi directional lugs for traction. The shoes felt very sturdy and have a great grip. They also have a reinforced toe cap at the front to protect you from any bands of scrapes at the front of your foot. The shoe is very well constructed, utilising various materials for ultimate comfort and stability. Whilst walking, the different materials easily stretch with your foot for a comfortable walk.
Testing in the city
Not only have these shoes been tested out on the trails, they have been tested in the city. I would say that these shoes work well in both situations. They are great for the fast paced life of the city and are very much get up and go if you are running around.
The KEEN Terradora Ethos comes in three different colours. Grape wine, Mulch/blue turquoise and Neutral grey/gargoyle.
After testing the KEEN Terradora Ethos hiking trainer in both the outdoors and inner city, I have to say this is the most comfortable trainer I have yet to review. I was so happy that I didn’t have to wear these shoes in at all. They are really comfortable, are a great support on your feet and deal with various terrains effortlessly.
On hot summer days it’s great to have a shoe that can keep your feet cool whilst tackling different terrains and has various colourways. Since receiving this pair of shoes from KEEN I have been wearing them daily as they have been super convenient, comfortable and stylish. Not one to miss this summer.
